One of the more than 5,000 athletes at the Games in Rome is an 18-year-old boxer named Cassius Clay. He wins gold in the light heavyweight division. This marks the beginning of a world-class career. After converting to Islam, he takes the name Muhammad Ali and becomes world heavyweight champion. In 1996, he lights the Olympic flame in Atlanta.
