The interactive museum for the whole family
The German Sport & Olympia Museum is the cultural hotspot of German sport. An inspiring place for exercise and encounters in a prominent location, directly along Rhine in an old customs hall dating from 1896. Here, we offer an exciting journey through the history of sport, from ancient Greece to the present day, covering an area of around 2,700 m². In addition, numerous activity stations invite visitors to experience the pleasure and challenge of movement first-hand. And if you want more, you are welcome to let off steam on the two highest and most beautiful playing areas in the city on the roof of the building – or simply enjoy the wonderful view.
The building is an interactive museum for the whole family and for everyone – for sports enthusiasts and those who want to become one. A dedicated team is always happy to welcome you.

Discover history together
At the German Sport & Olympia Museum, families can enjoy an exciting journey through 2,500 years of sporting history across more than 2,700 square metres. Children can discover real highlights – from Muhammad Ali's boxing gloves to Michael Schumacher's Formula 1 car and Dirk Nowitzki's giant basketball shoes. Many interactive stations invite visitors to try out different sports, compare records or get active themselves and discover new things. The exhibition showcases great moments, Olympic successes and emotional stories from the world of sport. In addition, child-friendly explanations and interactive elements provide a playful approach to historical contexts. The exhibition also focuses on fairness, team spirit and how sport brings people together. An experience for young and old that will leave a lasting impression.
Sport on the roof
The crowning glory of a visit to the museum is our spacious roof area, where everyone can get active once again. Whether it's a spontaneous game of football, a small basketball match or simply playing freely in the fresh air – here you can combine your museum experience with exercise. The area offers enough space for all participants to let off steam, try things out or organise small competitions together.
The necessary sports equipment can be borrowed easily and free of charge at the entrance desk, so nothing stands in the way of a sporting finale. Access to the roof is directly via the exhibition and is possible at any time. This makes a visit to the museum not only informative, but also a lively experience that ideally combines knowledge and exercise.
