General

  • Where is the German Sport & Olympia Museum located?

    The museum is located within walking distance of the main railway station, the cathedral and the old town in a listed building in Cologne's customs harbor (Zollhafen) - in a prime location directly on the Rhine. You can reach us just as easily by car as by public transport or on foot.

  • When is the museum open?

    The museum is open from Tuesday to Sunday and on public holidays from 10 am to 6 pm. The museum is closed on 24 and 25 December, New Year's Eve and New Year's Day, and during Carnival. During the school holidays in North Rhine-Westphalia, the museum is also open on Mondays.

  • Are there parking facilities near the museum?

    Parking is available in the immediate vicinity in the underground car park Rheinauhafen. The stairways 1.01 and 1.02 in the "red area" of the underground car park lead directly to the entrance of the museum. A short distance away, a lift in area 1.03 also offers barrier-free access to the building.

  • Is photography or filming allowed in the exhibitions?

    Photography and filming for private purposes is generally permitted. The use of flashes, tripods or other technology is not permitted. Photography and filming in a commercial context can only take place by prior arrangement. The contact person is the press office.

  • Who can I contact if I have lost something in the museum?

  • How much time should I plan for a visit?

    There is so much to see and experience here that you could spend a whole day in the museum. But an hour and a half or two hours is also enough time for a wonderful experience. You are more than welcome to stay as long as you want!

  • Is there WiFi?

    Free Wi-Fi (Hotspot Sportmuseum) is available throughout the museum.

  • Is there an audio guide?

    We also offer an audio guide. It works as an app that can be downloaded free of charge from the Google Play Store and the Apple App Store. It offers exciting information on many objects and topics in our exhibition.

  • Is there a café/restaurant in the museum?

    We have an attractive bistro, which also offers seating on a beautiful terrace with a view of the Rhine, weather permitting. However, due to the pandemic, catering services are currently very limited. Instead, high-quality self-service stations offer delicious snacks as well as hot and cold drinks.

  • Can I rent rooms in the museum for an event?

  • Is the museum barrier-free?

    You can move around the entire building barrier-free via step-free entrances and lifts. If necessary, our staff will be happy to assist you.
